Proclaimed in 1972 by the <strong>United Nations General Assembly<\/strong>, it represents the biggest annual event to encourage awareness and environmental protection.<br \/>\nThis year, the theme of the <strong>&#8220;Ecosystem Restoration&#8221;<\/strong> has been chosen to raise awareness and make the world aware of the important issue of food waste, an issue which is very dear to an Eco Resort like ours.<\/p>\n<p>Unep, the UN agency for the environment, explains that a third of the food produced in the world each year is thrown away during the process from producer to consumer. UNEP General Director Achim Steiner said: &#8220;Reducing food waste is an economic, ethical and environmental challenge. One way is to look at how less &#8216;wasteful&#8217; cultures value each bite, and learn how to do the same&#8221;.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Today, June 5, we celebrate World Environment Day.
