Proclaimed in 1972 by the <strong>United Nations General Assembly<\/strong>, it represents the biggest annual event to encourage awareness and environmental protection.<br \/>\nThis year, the theme of the <strong>\u00ab\u00a0Ecosystem Restoration\u00a0\u00bb<\/strong> has been chosen to raise awareness and make the world aware of the important issue of food waste, an issue which is very dear to an Eco Resort like ours.<\/p>\n<p>Unep, the UN agency for the environment, explains that a third of the food produced in the world each year is thrown away during the process from producer to consumer. UNEP General Director Achim Steiner said: \u00ab\u00a0Reducing food waste is an economic, ethical and environmental challenge.
