World Environment Day

Today, June 5, we celebrate World Environment Day. Proclaimed in 1972 by the United Nations General Assembly, it represents the biggest annual event to encourage awareness and environmental protection.
This year, the theme of the « Ecosystem Restoration » has been chosen to raise awareness and make the world aware of the important issue of food waste, an issue which is very dear to an Eco Resort like ours.

Unep, the UN agency for the environment, explains that a third of the food produced in the world each year is thrown away during the process from producer to consumer. UNEP General Director Achim Steiner said: « Reducing food waste is an economic, ethical and environmental challenge. One way is to look at how less ‘wasteful’ cultures value each bite, and learn how to do the same ».
